Where do we even start with Amanda and Pat’s wedding? There was so much to love about how they planned their day. They got married in Amanda’s parents yard, surrounded by beautiful trees, a really cool wooden arch covered in greenery, and the people nearest and dearest to them! You could feel the love between them in every glance they cast in each other’s direction, the thoughtful words they shared with each other, and the way they held each other close. We were so excited to shoot with Amanda and Richard of Root and Arrow Photography for this wedding!
It was a hot day but everyone was in good spirits for all the outdoor portraits. This was one of the few weddings where we ended up finishing pictures ahead of schedule and the bridal party got a chance to relax at Ore Dock Brewing Company prior to the start of the reception. The reception was at Barrel + Beam. It was the first reception they hosted and they did an AMAZING JOB! We highly recommend this venue for any engaged couples out there. After a delicious meal catered by Rollin’ Smoke BBQ, we got to sneak Pat and Amanda out for some beautiful sunset portraits! It was a glorious day and it couldn’t have gone more smoothly!

At the beginning of August, we had the pleasure of shooting the wedding film for Jessica and Justin. We first met up with them in late January at a local coffee shop and quickly realized we shared a love for Star Wars and books. They got married at Kaufman Auditorium, it was an awesome venue to tie the knot! This was also our first time shooting along side Dylan and Marisa of Boy Girl Beauty World! They were truly wonderful people to work alongside and we were excited that we had another chance to work with again them later in the summer.
Jessica and Justin’s wedding day was absolutely beautiful! We loved how they were true to themselves and incorporated the things and people they loved in their wedding day. Jessica is a local librarian and read a book as a part of her vows (we LOVED that they wrote their own!). Their family dog Anthem was the ring bearer. Their cake, done by Midtown Bakery, was made to look like a book and all of their tables were assigned a book rather than a number. Jessica is also a part of the Borealis Dancers and the troupe performed prior to the ceremony and during the reception. They danced the night away at the Holiday Inn - Marquette and it was a fantastic evening! Congrats again to Jessica and Justin! The OK Factor is a string duo based out of Minneapolis, MN. They released their education initiative, ATLAS, on August 1st! Back in July, we shot a music video for them to promote ATLAS at Bareback Ridge, or as some call it the “Top of the World” in Marquette. For those who have never taken the time to head there, it’s a gorgeous alternative to Sugar Loaf and Hogsback if you only have a little time to make the trek and have a car that can handle the dirt road out there.
The night we shot the video was absolutely beautiful! We had a stretch of hot weather the week, but when we reached the ridge, there was a beautiful breeze. Olivia and Karla were fantastic sports, as they hiked carrying their instruments on their backs and didn’t skip a beat (get it?). We love doing films about couples in love, but it was fun to do something a little different! We hope you enjoy the music video for “Imaginary Friend” by The OK Factor! Be sure to check out The OK Factor on facebook or visit www.theokfactoratlas.com “I find our story beautiful. God has a way of timing things perfectly. There were a lot of bumps in the road. Ones where I almost lost who I was, but with faith, perseverance, and Tony always building me back up, we have created the perfect life together.” - Erin DiCarlo
This quote really resonated with Matt and I when we read Erin’s story a few months ago. We had so many awesome entries and, again, every love story is beautiful in its own way. But Erin and Tony’s story began 10 years ago when they went to the same high school. Their story really captured how we learn and grow together in love, and the perseverance that true love requires. Matt and I believe that God’s timing is perfect, and that is a huge part of our story as well. Choosing a winner whose wedding was a week after the contest deadline had its challenges, but Erin and Tony made it so easy to join in their wedding festivities last minute. We loaded up our jeep that sunny February morning and headed to Houghton. We got some gorgeous drone footage of early light on the bridge and the Continental Fire Company, and captured some getting ready shots with both the bridesmaids and the groomsmen. Erin and Tony’s wedding was complete with so many beautiful details. Antlers were incorporated into the decorations to show their love of outdoor activities. Erin looked as beautiful as could be in her lace dress with a birdcage veil, and the beautiful backdrop necklace. Their wedding party was a blast to follow around for the day. Their son, Jace was awesome! He had the best jokes and dance moves of the day, and as you can see for yourself from the intro to the video, a very sweet and heartfelt speech in front of all the guests. It was a beautiful day and the perfect way to kick off our 2018 wedding season! Until Next Time, Lauren and Matt Hey Everyone!
Matthew Hill Creative has had a very busy winter - participating in a bridal show, going on coffee dates with clients, filming a wedding in Houghton, doing short films for missionaries, editing films, purchasing the rest of our gear, and scheduling projects for the summer. Busy is good. We’re excited to announce that we are booked for 2018! We can’t WAIT to celebrate this year’s couples! We’ve already started booking for 2019! Couples who book us before July 1, 2018 can snag our 2018 prices for their 2019 weddings. Know someone who is getting married in 2019? Let them know we are here to help them capture their day! Winter was also busy for us personally. We celebrated the life of a grandmother, the birth and baptism of our goddaughter, Caroline, kept up with our other jobs, lead a marriage group through our church, etc. Matt and I have loved our two years in our tiny apartment in Marquette. It was the perfect place for us to start our marriage and grow together. Now we have found a new place to live in Negaunee, with more room for an office and being able to host friends. We’re excited to see some of the dreams we’ve dreamt up at our old apartment come to life this year. We’ve been quiet this April as we’ve transitioned from one place to another. Be on the look-out for our blogs and projects that are headed your way in the coming weeks and months! Also, thank you, as always, for following along with us on this adventure! Until Next Time, Lauren and Matt This morning Lauren and I went out to catch the sunrise. Living here is always worth it when you get to be surrounded by such beauty. It's even more worth it when you get to fly a drone! Then afterwards we went and got doughnuts!
Winter Weddings!! How beautiful! Erin and Tony your day was great! Here is a little teaser. In January, we had the opportunity to film Josh and Saydi's engagement video. These high school sweethearts have a terrific story, and we hope that you enjoy hearing about how it all began!
Chasing waterfalls is one of our favorite things to do and has become a big part of our story! This was from a trip Lauren and I took to Canyon Falls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this past fall.
This past week we hit 200 likes on our Facebook page! This was a short term goal that we were happy to accomplish and celebrate. We are happy to be offering Marquette couples Wedding Films and are excited about where our business is going! We've been busy reading the submissions to our Tell Your Love Story Contest the past couple weeks. It'll be tough to pick the winner but there is still time to enter! If you know someone getting married in 2018, let them know about the contest and the chance they have for the free wedding film! |
